Knee Pain Treatment in Boardman

Knee pain can impact your quality of life—making stairs something to dread, turning a walk into something to plan around, or convincing you that surgery is just a matter of time. At Embrace Chiropractic, we’ve helped practice members avoid that path by finding the real reason the knee is breaking down.

The Lumbar Spine Connection Most Patients Never Hear About

The knee doesn’t function in isolation. The L3 nerve root in the lumbar spine travels directly into the knee, which means misalignments in the lower back can cut off the brain’s ability to coordinate healing in the knee joint. Lumbar scoliotic curves are a common culprit, reducing nerve flow while the joint quietly continues to degrade.

Your nervous system governs the vast majority of your body’s healing processes without your awareness. Most nervous system function happens silently behind the scenes, including the body’s ability to heal and recover from injury.

When spinal subluxations compress the nerve roots supplying the knee, the brain doesn’t fully register the breakdown occurring at the joint. By the time pain shows up, significant deterioration may already be underway.

Why the Knee Breaks Down Over Time

Knee pain tends to develop through a combination of structural misalignment and accumulated stress. Common contributing factors include:

  • Lumbar scoliosis reducing nerve communication to the knee via L3
  • Pelvic or sacral misalignment creating uneven load through the legs
  • Scar tissue buildup within the knee limiting range of motion
  • Previous injuries not fully resolved at the neurological level
  • Repetitive microtraumas from running, athletics, or daily activity

What Knee Pain Can Feel Like

Knee pain varies widely depending on the cause and how long the underlying issue has been present. Some people notice aching or stiffness after sitting or upon waking. Others feel sharp pain with weight-bearing movement, stair climbing, or bending the knee fully. Swelling, instability, and a sense of the knee giving way are also common when scar tissue is limiting normal joint mechanics.

When Knee Pain Deserves a Closer Look

If your knee pain has persisted beyond a few weeks, returns after rest, or is limiting daily activities, investigating the root cause now matters. Knee replacement isn’t inevitable, but catching the neurological and structural contributors early makes a significant difference in outcome.

X-Rays, TRT, and Shockwave: Finding and Fixing the Root Cause

Every knee case at the practice begins with in-house full-spine digital X-rays to assess lumbar alignment, hip position, and sacral symmetry, combined with a shockwave discovery treatment to identify any damaged or scar tissue within the knee. This gives us a complete picture of what’s driving the breakdown.

We then use Torque Release Technique to correct lumbar and pelvic subluxations, restoring the nerve communication the knee needs to begin healing. TRT uses the only FDA-approved chiropractic instrument, the Integrator™, and is precise and low-force enough for practice members of all ages. Our goal is to optimize nervous system function so the body can heal and function the way it was designed to.

When scar tissue is present, shockwave therapy works directly on the knee to break it down and stimulate healthy tissue regeneration. Care plans may also include orthotics, targeted stretches, strength training, lifestyle recommendations, nutritional guidance, and hydration support.

Moving Without Pain Again

Practice members dealing with knee pain, including those told surgery was their only option, have experienced real improvements in joint function and mobility. The goal is a nervous system optimized well enough that your body can do what it was designed to do: heal completely.
